Prostate Calculi (stones) is a very common disease among men. Prostate is a gland below a man`s bladder and produces the fluid in semen. It mostly appears to be calcified protein bodies known as corpora amylacea. It usually affects middle aged and older men. The stones can be about 2-3 mm in diameter.

Prostate stone happens due to the appearance of calcified protein bodies in the prostate. It is formed by salts of calcium, protein and cholesterol. It can happen due various reasons and can lead to many problems if not treated in time.

Usually there are various symptoms which can highlight that you have prostate stones. The patient can complain of pain in the perineum, which can get aggravated during sexual intercourse. Physical activity can also increase the pain. Bleeding while urinating or while passing the sperms and decreased sexual desires can also point to the condition. Blockage to the flow of urine and feeling of heaviness in the bladder can also act as symptoms.

How is Prostate Stone diagnosed?

The condition can be diagnosed through a survey of the symptoms. The doctor can do an ultrasound to get an image of the prostate. Also, urine tests can be done to check for CP or CPPS. More tests can be done such as blood test, fluid from the prostate or cystoscopy.

What Is The Treatment Of Prostate Stone?

There are two ways in which the prostate stones can be treated. One is conservative method and the other is surgical. In the conservative method doctor can suggest antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs which can stop the progress of the disease. Also, various physiotherapy and drug administration can be prescribed to improve the blood circulation to the affected areas. For the surgical treatment the most common method is to remove the stones through surgery. Although with recent advancements the stones can be destroyed using the laser technology. The stones are broken down to very small pieces so that the same can be passed along with urine without any pain.

Also folk remedies such as drinking lot of water in empty stomach and fresh onions can help in such a condition.

What Are The Consequences Of Prostate Stone?

In case the prostate stone is not treated in time it can lead to chronic prostatitis and damage to the gland walls. Stones do not lead to cancer, but, if not treated can aggravate the pain and even block the functionality of kidney to pass the urine. Doctors can prescribe some bed rest and to abstain from sex for the time being.
